Restaurants and bars :
- Garota de Ipanema : the famous restaurant and bar where Tom Jobim
and Vinicius de Moraes composed "The Girl from Ipanema" (hence the
name of the bar ever since...), at the corner of Rua Vinicius de Moraes and
Rua Prudente de Moraes, Ipanema, 2523-3787.
- Bistro Zaza : fusion food in a finely decorated house; sit on pillows
and enjoy the atmosphere on the 2nd floor; at the corner of Rua Prudente de
Moraes and Rua Joana Angélica, Ipanema, tel: 2247-9101.
- Madame Butterfly : the best Japanese restaurant in Rio de Janeiro,
great sushis, fantastic "chocolate soufflé" for dessert, rua Barão da Torre, 472, Ipanema, tel
: 2267-4347.
- Tanaka San Lagoa : another very good Japanese restaurant, with a
rewarding view over the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Avenida Epitacio Pessoa,

- Yemanja : reknowned Bahianese restaurant, rua Visconde de Piraja,
128, Ipanema, tel: 2247-7004.
- Marius : one of Rio's two great " churrascarias", which are
all-you-can-eat meat restaurant, Av. Atlântica, 290 - Leme, tel: 2542-2393.
- Porcão : the other great churrascaria, for people who enjoy
meat, rua Barão da Torre, 218 Ipanema, tel :2522-0999.
- Le Pré Catelan, in the Sofitel Hotel, one of (or maybe, the)
best French restaurant in Rio, av. Atlântica, 4240 - Copacabana (Sofitel Rio
Palace), tel: 2521-3232 (at the end of Rua Joaquim Nabuco, going towards Copacabana).
- Satyricon, forget about meat, this is all about fish... very good
food, rua Barão da Torre, 192, Ipanema, tel: 2521-0955.
- Antiquarius, the best Portuguese restaurant in Rio, even in Brazil
with its other location in Sao Paulo, decorated as an antiques shop. Leblon,
r. Aristides Espínola, 19, tel: 2294-1049.
Shopping :
- rua Visconde de Piraja, Ipanema's Broadway, numerous shopping arcades, services,
bank agencies...
- rua Garcia d'Avila, where the luxury brands gather...
- "Feira Hippie", held every sunday for the last 30 years on Praça
General Osorio (about 150m from the apartment),
- further away, the most famous shopping centers in Rio are the Rio Sul, located
between Botafogo and Copacabana, the Fashion Mall in Sao Conrado, and Barra
Shopping, Rio's biggest, in Barra da Tijuca (about 30mn by car from Ipanema)
